The leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide is pancreatic cancer. The disease has a very poor prognosis and carries a virtual death sentence. In the United States alone, 33,000 new cases of pancreatic cancer are expected to be diagnosed each year. Chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy generally have little effect in controlling pancreatic cancer, and new strategies are urgently needed to control this disease.

Several studies have produced the view that a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, or certain herbs can protect against various human malignancies, including pancreatic cancer. And this is an area where Indian medicine is light years away from us in the United States. Since 2002, the Amala Cancer Research Center in India, under the direction of Dr. Ramadas Ruttan, has been studying the efficacy of Triphala, a blend of three specific fruits. common to India. Triphala is commonly known throughout Asia as the King of Medicines, due to the wide range of ailments Ayurvedic practitioners treat with it.

During follow-up studies in 2006, scientists discovered that Triphala can induce cytotoxicity in cancer tumor cells without affecting normal healthy cells. Subsequently, further studies revealed that Triphala also killed cancer cells before they could spread, preventing metastasis.

In April 2007, the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute published the findings of a study confirming that Triphala caused pancreatic cancer cells to die through a process known as apoptosis, the body’s normal method of killing cells. damaged or unnecessary. This apoptosis process is often faulty in cancer cells.

The researchers went one step further and looked at the individual fruits in the Triphala mix: Amla, Bibipaki, Haritaki; exclusive fruit from India. Although the Triphala mixture of the three fruits caused the death of cancer cells, which significantly reduced the size of the tumors, the use of the individual components of the mixture did not produce any corresponding results. In all cases where Triphala was used successfully, side effects were virtually non-existent and healthy cells were not damaged.

Principal Investigator Dr. Sanjay K Srivastava PhD is very encouraged by the results, believing that they are on the verge of developing a truly effective treatment protocol for pancreatic cancer. anything that threatens the profit image of the US pharmaceutical industry. Triphala cannot be patented. It is available in any health food store in India and it is cheap. So we can all hope that an aggressive media attack will soon be organized, denouncing Triphala as “quackery”, which should be banned.

In the meantime, anyone with pancreatic cancer would do well to consult a knowledgeable alternative physician and receive treatment with this substance before our political process is persuaded to ban it.
