Marriage is one of the oldest institutions created by man. An old proverb says: “Marriages are made in heaven and consummated on earth.” It is widely believed that God creates human beings in pairs of the same soul and that each one has their soul mate in this world. True love consists in discovering your soul mate in this world. Therefore, for each person, there is a unique soul mate, and it is the destiny of the person to search for his soul mate.
The soul mate concept is quite romantic and interesting as each person who falls in love feels that they have discovered the soul mate. Lovers believe that they are made for each other or that they are two bodies and one soul.
Thus, many times people refer to love as an act of union of souls.
However, not all love can lead to soul bonding, as only the souls of soulmates can bond. This concept is explained in the most beautiful way in the book”Girlfriendby the world famous author Paulo Coelho in the following words
And when people think about reincarnation, they are always faced with a very difficult question: if in the beginning there were so few people on the face of the Earth, and now there are so many, where did all those new souls come from?
The answer is simple.
In certain reincarnations, we split into two. …Our souls split in two, and those new souls in turn become two and so, within a few generations, we are spread over much of the Earth… And that process of finding ourselves becomes called Love. Because when a soul splits, it always splits into a bad part et un female part.
This is how the Book of Genesis explains it: Adam’s soul split in two, and Eve was born from him.
in every life, we feel a mysterious obligation to find at least one of those soul mates. The Greater Love that separated them is pleased with the Love that unites them again.
It is for this reason that everyone seems to be caring for the special person in their life who is the soulmate.
soul mate identification
The concept of soul mate is so popular in the world that it can be found in practically all civilizations. The most difficult problem, however, seems to be the identification of the soulmate.
The feeling of love is the most popular method to find the soul mate. When a man and a woman fall in love, their soul seems to unite and they behave as two bodies and one soul. In the book Brida, Paulo Coelho writes
You could tell your soul mate by the light in their eyes, and ever since time began, this has been how people have recognized their true love. The Tradition of the Moon used a different process: a kind of vision that showed a point of light on the left shoulder of your Soul Mate.
People try very sincerely to find their soul mates for love. However, most people fall out of love sooner rather than later. Therefore, love is often called blind. Ambrose Bierce called love madness,
“Love is a temporary madness that is cured with marriage”.
The fact is that most people who find the deepest love in their loved one rarely keep it throughout their lives, as evidenced by rising divorce rates in the modern world.
The rise in the divorce rate
Most people face disappointment in their love when they soon find out that the person they loved is not their soulmate. This has led to rising divorce rates, especially in the Western world. According to Jennifer Baker of the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, Missouri, “50% percent of first marriages, 67% of second and 74% of third marriages in the United States end in divorce.
The statistics, however, tell only part of the story, as most people are now so suspicious of the success of their marriage that they prefer to live there for years and even have children before marriage. Only when they are absolutely sure that they are in love, they decide to get married. However, the marriage soon ended in divorce, as statistics reveal.
Does it mean that most people can’t find their soulmate?
Or does it mean that there is something wrong with our perception of the soulmate?
We also wonder if soul mates really exist or is it just an illusion created by our ancestors so that people don’t get divorced believing their marriages are made in heaven. So once you are married, it becomes a sin to divorce your spouse in many traditions. Since most people are afraid of committing sin, marriages survived in the past.
However, after man began to choose his beloved by falling in love, he soon discovered that love does not really exist except in romance novels or spiritual literature.
What the scriptures say about marriage
Marriage is one of the most secret institutions of humanity. In India, Hindu marriages are still solemnized using the mantras of the “Rig Veda”, humanity’s oldest scripture written more than three thousand years before the birth of Christ. In Hindu scriptures, marriages are considered unbreakable in this life and go beyond the current life up to seven lives.
The institution of marriage in India has stood the test of time. Even in modern times when the western world is struggling to reduce divorce rates, in India the divorce rate is much lower than 1% despite having similar divorce provisions in law that exist in the world western.
The most interesting fact about Indian marriage is that about 90% of marriages are “arranged” by the parents of the boy and girl rather than being infatuated. Most of the time, the guys haven’t even seen the girl. Although they have seen each other, they can hardly know each other since they meet for a very short time in the presence of their parents and other family members. However, almost all marriages survive and most couples feel in love during their lifetime.
The concept of love and marriage
To understand the design of love, we must refer to the Bible that deals with the concept of love and marriage in its first chapter of Genesis (21-24)
Then the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he slept, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed the place with meat. Then Jehovah God made a woman out of the rib that he had taken out of the man, and brought her to the man. The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
because she was taken from man.”
Therefore a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
Thus, nature has divided the human species into male and female. God in Indian scriptures is also called the universal soul (paramatama) because He is the source of all the individual souls of the people. Therefore, in each person lives the same soul that is the soul of God, since no soul has its individual and independent existence.
The illusion of the soulmate
Therefore, it may be useless to search for a soul that is specially destined for the person, since all souls are the same. The only difference is that the soul of man and woman are complementary to each other just like the particles of protons and electrons that are equal and opposite to each other.
The connection between different souls is only through the Soul of the World or God that connects each person as a thread joins the flowers to make a garland.
Hence the secret of love is in the love of God. Once a person loses faith in God, there is no way he can maintain the connection with any other soul. That is why faith has emerged as the most important element to stay in love and marriage. it’s well said “The family that prays together, stays together.”
Without God Without Love
It is said that love is God or God is love because love and God are two names of the same reality. The love that most people fall into is also real, since God has created the attraction between man and woman to fulfill his spiritual destiny. Only by the union of the bodies is a new life created. Similarly, due to the union of the soul, love is born.
Love like every living being is born and grows by itself. At first love may be physical, but it gradually evolves into the state of mind and soul so that your ultimate destiny of being one with God can be realized.
It is for this reason that all love based on physical attractions begins to wane unless the spouses’ relationship evolves from the physical stage to the mind and soul stage. The union of the body must grow to become the union of the mind, which means that the lovers must become friends soon. Friends have little to no physical component elements. The friendship has to gradually become spiritual when the union of the soul between the lovers is achieved. The union of the soul, then, has to become the spiritual union with God.
However, people do not accept the change in the nature of love as some people cannot reconcile the growth of their child. They feel the loss of physical desire as the loss of love, since they identify love with physical attraction.
This leads to a search for a new soul mate and the search continues until the end when they finally realize that there is no soul mate.
However, those who have faith gradually transform to spiritual being along with their Twin Souls passing through the stage of body, mind, soul and spirit (God).
the true soul mate
The soulmate concept is real. However, there is no oneness in soul mate as all people have the same soul which is part of God. Therefore, one can find his soulmate and his love in most people, as long as they have faith in God. The only way to stay in love is to have faith and accept love in all its forms, such as lust, friendship, and spirituality, as the ultimate destiny of every soul is to become one with God. Physical love is just the beginning of the journey. The soulmate is someone who not only helps you reach your destiny, but also journeys together towards the realization of this density together.
