“What? You think a first-class girl can’t drink?” The 1997 film Titanic, written and produced by James Cameron, describes the situation of women during 1912. The film depicts a dynamic love story between a poor Caucasian boy artist and a wealthy, independent girl. It also showed the story of one of the most remembered disasters in history.

The story began in 1997, when treasure hunter Brock Lovett searches for a necklace with a rare diamond, Heart of the Ocean, in the wreck of the RMS Titanic. By chance they found a drawing of a young woman wearing the necklace naked. The woman appeared to be Rose DeWitt Bukater … Rose Dawson Calvert. He then introduced himself to Lovett and recounted his experiences on the Titanic. The story continues as a 17-year-old Rose DeWitt Bukater, a first-class passenger in 1912 aboard the Titanic. She was forced to marry a wealthy man named Caledon Hockley, leading her to conclude that ending his life is the way to escape. When she was about to jump, a man stopped her and offered her help, but authorities thought it was rape and when they found her innocence, Cal was forced to invite Jack to dinner with the other first-class passenger. The story continues, Rose and Jack fell in love with each other despite the warning from their mother Rose, Ruth DeWitt Bukater. Then Cal found out about everything and locked Jack away from Rose. Then the Titanic hit an iceberg and the ship began to sink, and Rose set off to save Jack. Leaving the two of them not saved because all the lifeboats have already left. Due to the wooden panel Rose entered, she was saved because one of the lifeboats returned. While Jack died of hypothermia. After being saved, Rose decided to change her name to Rose Dawson and follow her heart by leaving all the wealth she had before. The story went back to the present day, Lovett and his company who heard the story were excited and simply discarded the idea of the Heart of the Ocean necklace. The movie ended with old Rose holding the necklace and throwing it into the ocean.

Rose is simply someone who is a representation of an independent woman, fell in love with a poor artist, rejected her family and fiancé, abandoned her past life and lives her life on her own. She demonstrated many things throughout the film; women are also knowledgeable about things and they are not just beauties, she is a woman who has her own opinion and is not afraid to share it because she believes that she is only expressing her own, she is willing to try new things without caring what others will do . people think of her, she doesn’t care how people define femininity, she issued a new definition of strength, she’s confident in her own body, she doesn’t need Jack to save her, but otherwise she risked her life just to save Jack. Rose proved that heroes don’t just wear capes, they wear dresses too.

In general, the movie Titanic marked me because it shows the empowerment of women. It may not be the main focus of the story, but it kind of gave me a different perspective if you look at that area. Titanic is worth a thousand tears. The actors and actresses portrayed their roles well, which gave the film more flavor. The production team and the rest of the technical staff did a great job producing a blockbuster film that so far touches the hearts of its viewers. The music complemented the flow of the story well, which gave the story a good narrative. So the movie suits my taste and I can say that it is a very dramatic but meaningful movie to watch.
