Delivering Innovation

One of the best ways for years that online marketers have tried to increase your website’s page rank is by purchasing high-value links directed to your website. Although this may sound like a logical and simple practice, all the major search engines don’t see it that way. If you think about it for a minute, anyone who has the most money to invest in their practice can easily appear at the top of search engine result lists for any keyword or phrase they want.

Major search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing look for high-quality, organically-developed inbound links instead of purchased links. God only knows how search engine algorithms figure out which links have been bought or not, but they do. What will happen to you if you buy links? The worst case scenario could be that search engines blacklist your site from any search listing for your keywords. If you do a search for your content and can’t find it and you know it should be listed, you can email the major search engines and ask them why your content isn’t indexed.

So how should you increase your link popularity to attract high-quality, high-value inbound links without running into trouble? These are some of the main strategies to use:

  • Optimized Press Releases Online – It’s never been easier to relay information about something new you’re doing with your business than it is to send press releases to online news agencies. Running a simple press release directory search will return a list of paid and free services to which you can submit your PR. Some things to keep in mind is that you still want to use proper search engine optimization techniques when writing your release to include: keyword-rich content in the title, body, and resource block of your press release. Make sure you have hyperlinks within the body pointing to your website. If you use a submission directory, your press release will likely be submitted to a few hundred news agencies and other directories which will, in turn, reward you with a high-value inbound link, increasing the popularity of your website.
  • Blogging – Any online business should have at least one blog in order to provide valuable content to its target market. Be sure to use proper search engine optimization techniques and keyword usage in your content to make it attractive to search engines and potential readers. Most people initially think that they have to continually write, write, write content to attract search engine spiders. Finding guest bloggers or getting relevant material from article directories are just two of many techniques to simplify this process. Providing compelling content will not only satisfy the search engine’s need for you to continually update your content, but it will also keep your readers coming back.
  • Community Forums: Commenting in relevant industry forums is another method of creating an increasing number of high-quality, valuable inbound links to your website. Yes, this takes time, but if you add that this is one of the strategies used in your strategic inbound marketing link popularity plan and focus 15-30 minutes per day on it, you will get several high-quality inbound links and additional traffic to your website.
  • Social Bookmarking – This technique is what is commonly known as “link building on steroids”. There’s no easier way than to use free online tools like ping.fm’s HootSuite to automatically post your content to 25-50 social networking and bookmarking sites at the same time. What this will also do is provide plenty of high quality, high value inbound links pointing directly to your website to provide additional ammunition with search engines to increase your page rank and link popularity.
