Treetop accommodation

Located just inside the gates of Aberdere National Park, Treetops overlooks water holes and a salt pan. The lodge stands straight and rigid on stilts and is exclusively dedicated to game viewing. Climbing the narrow open stairs, you commit to a night of enclosed spaces and cold decks. The ability to see wild animals up close has created the Treetops tradition.

The living room is cozy with large windows and warm wood, and there is a roof terrace with open views in all directions. The guest rooms called “nests” are small bed closets with dark wood paneling, small windows, and no bathrooms.

The Ark Located in the heart of Aberdare National Park, this unique The Ark game lodge overlooks a floodlit waterhole which attracts an abundance of wildlife – elephant, rhino, leopard, fallow deer and the occasional a elusive bongo or a giant forest hog.

Resembling and named after Noah’s Ark, The Ark consists of three decks from which numerous balconies and lounges provide excellent vantage points for game viewing. A ground level bunker offers excellent photographic opportunities. Before embarking on the half-hour drive to The Ark, lunch is served at the charming Aberdare Country Club.

Serena Mountain Lodge, Mount Kenya

Perched 7,200ft (2,195m) on the slopes of Kenya’s snow-covered bush, Serena Mountain Lodge is Kenya’s most luxurious en-suite treehouse lodge. At dusk, the dense rainforest comes alive with countless sounds from creatures of various descriptions.

Elephant, rhinoceros, various species of antelope including bongo and occasionally both leopard and lion are frequent visitors at the lighted waterhole which is connected to the lodge by a short tunnel to a specially constructed bunker offering a close up view of the game.

For ornithologists, more than 200 species of birds have been identified, while the native rainforest vegetation is of special interest to botanists. The most rewarding experience is a clear view in the early morning or late afternoon of the rocky peaks of Mount Kenya with its more than half a dozen glaciers.

Sabuk Lodge, Laikipia

Sabuk Lodge is a stunning nature destination, located on the high banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the northern border district, overlooking the Laikipia Plateau and Samburu land.

The lodge has 5 rondavels (open-sided huts) with terrace, shower and WC, each with its own fabulous view. Sabuk was formed from the local landscape, built with local materials, the hillside and flora, twisted wood and stone boulders incorporated into the architecture. Open walls and private terraces look out over the river gorge 150 feet below. This mountainous area with dense acacia bushes is home to a great deal of game.
