Delivering Innovation

Five and a half months ago, without thinking about next spring, I put my lawn mower in the shed. Obviously, I must have put in a lot of extra things afterwards, because I had to spend almost an entire afternoon removing things just to get the mower out.

As I worked, I made up my mind not to put the mower back in the middle of the shed. In the process of mowing the lawn, my mind began to consider songs that contain the word Middle in their titles.

Here is a list of fifteen of those tunes.

Jerry Lee Lewis Middle-Aged Madman

It’s not as well known as “Great Balls of Fire,” but no collection of hits from the rockabilly legend would be complete without this classic.

Caught in the middle with you by Stealer’s Wheel

Gerry Rafferty had greater success as a solo artist, but this lasting success gives us a glimpse of his talent for the first time.

River of Dreams (in the middle of the night) by Billy Joel

This title track served as evidence that the Piano Man had returned to rock after his brief foray into the 1950s and early 1960s stuff that he had done in Innocent man.

Piggy in the Middle by the Rutles

Parodying the Fab Four in the mid-1970s, these comedians ended up making a catchy album of Beatlesque songs like this one that resembles “I Am the Walrus.”

Jack Johnson Middle Man

The surfer-turned-songwriter placed this track on his debut album, Brushfire Fairy Tales.

Man in the middle of ABBA

This single did not get what it deserved, having been stuck in the middle of the top charts like “Dancing Queen” and “Waterloo”.

Half way down the suitors

Chrissy Hynde and her rock up outfit are still being broadcast for this single.

In the middle of a Muse dream

Arcana It was the first album to generate this melody, which represents the grunge influence of the band.

Central America by Will Hoge

A memorable video accompanied the release of this title track from Roots Rocker’s ninth album.

The Middle by Jimmy Eat World

This simple title is found in the Bleed american 2001 album.

Panic At the Disco Mid-Summer

The best time of year is the focus of this track from Brendon Urie’s rock band. Nice. Odd. album.

Middle of your heart Melanie

After singing on skates and a new key, the folk singer scored again with this ballad.

Middle of Nowhere by Dusty Springfield

He went much further than this title indicates, having sung on other great hits like “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me”.

Middle of the night by the Kooks

These English alternative rockers have been making great songs like this for almost two decades.

Foxygen High School Dance

Few artists have embraced this great event in the lives of tweens, and none have done it more creatively than this indie group.
